Please use the latest version; don't "invest" in a version that is not supported and of which the IP wasn't checked the way versions > 5 is checked. Recently, a company looking for an investor didn't get any funding because they were using the old iText. Actually, there were also plenty of other reasons, but the fact that they hadn't been careful with their use of F/OSS and their interpretation of F/OSS licenses was one of the reasons. Please don't make that same mistake.
