A finished PDF file in general does not know anymore about chapters,
sections, or subsections. All it knows are glyphs and graphic elements put
on pages at given positions.

If you show us your PDF,  we might be able to tell you whether it is an
exception and indeed does contain some chapter Information or If some other
way to tell.
