First of all, it merely looks at the /Content stream of the page, it ignores any objects only referenced from there. And secondly, it is very optimistic about the encoding of characters and the order they occur in in the stream. You generate your PDF file using imported pages. These are put into objects of their own right which then are referenced from the content stream. Thus, your method returns nothing.
