In that case would you care to explain why the PAdES specification does
refer to MDP signatures?

E.g. in part 4:

This BTW was what I had in mind when I wrote

Admittedly, though, the specification there only talks about specifications
which will have to be changed. I have no idea how PDF-2 actually is changed
in that respect.
