What is EXACTLY?
Even between browsers there are differences.

Also, don't forget that a browser doesn't need to worry about a page 
size: it has scroll bars, and therefore more freedom.

In PDF, you have to take the page size into account and make design 
decisions to fit everything between the left and right margin.

This being said: if you define the columns in pt, then iText should 
respect those values (unless you're creating a table that doesn't fit 
the width of the page).
