As you meanwhile found out yourself, your problems occurs for embedded,
inline images. According to the PDF specification ISO 32000-1 section 8.9.7
"Inline Images"
> This type of image shall be defined directly within the content stream in
> which it will be painted rather than as a separate object.

Thus, there is no such "image Object" to retrieve at all!
