Bummer. Another user, who posted to this mailing list some time back,
was able to get his card working by tweaking his PCI settings in his
BIOS setup. You may want to try doing that before replacing your
motherboard.

PVR-500MCE (D492) a couple weeks ago. I haven't really had much
success getting it to run in my main Myth box. In fact, it was causing a

PVR-500 in my gaming box (dual boot Windows/Gentoo Linux). I reformatted
the linux partition and installed it fresh with Gentoo 2005.0 and

record one program and watch live tv, etc. I even left it running all
night watching live tv and when I came back in the morning it was still
going strong and I can still change channels, etc.
As a test, I compiled a kernel on my gaming box that would work on both
that box and my main Myth box. I then rebooted and made sure the PVR-500
still worked with the gaming box. Then I moved the hard disk and the
PVR-500 to my Myth box, took out everything else (extra hard disks,
DVD-ROM, etc.) to make the hardware config of my Myth box look as
similar to the gaming box as possible. I then fired up the Myth box (and
it booted on the first try! :-). I fired up Myth and tried to watch live
TV. Poof! Instant reset.
I have also noticed in the past few weeks of testing that whenever I do
a "cat /dev/video0 > file" and play the file, there are lots of MPEG
artifacts in the resulting file. This only happens on my Myth box; the
gaming box shows no artifacts.
The two main differences between my gaming box and my Myth box are:
- Gaming box: Shuttle FN41-G2 (Nforce2 Chipset) and ATI Radeon 9600
using fglrx drivers for X.
- Myth box: Epox EP-8K3A+ (Via KT333 Chipset) and Nvidia 440MX using
Nvidia drivers for X.
My Myth box has been working great for all my other hardware for a few
years now, and since it became a Myth box last year, it has not had any
issues.
With this last test I did, there is no difference in any of the software
(except which kernel modules get loaded to support the different
hardware). The only thing I can think of is a driver or hardware
problem. Is there still an issue with using the ivtv driver with VIA
based systems? Or is it more likely that there is some quirk with my
particular motherboard that is causing this issue?
