I found out that it is precisely all these messages that kill the computer. In
ivtv-irq.c, ivtv_irq_handler(), there are two 'if's handling
IVTV_IRQ_DMA_ERR. I've commented these out and after that it seems to work
fine. These status messages are too verbose for an interrupt handler routine.

Now I get problems with msp3400. I get these messages repeatedly in my kernel
log:

Apr 18 22:57:21 marune msp34xx: I/O error #1 (write 0x12/0x0a)
Apr 18 22:57:21 marune msp34xx: I/O error #2 (write 0x12/0x0a)
Apr 18 22:57:21 marune msp34xx: I/O error #3 (write 0x12/0x0a)
Apr 18 22:57:21 marune msp34xx: giving up, reseting chip. Sound will go off,
sorry folks :-|
Apr 18 22:57:21 marune msp3400: chip reset failed

Note that I'm using the msp source from linux-2.6.11-rc3, not the msp source
from ivtv. I'll have to try that when I have some more time.
