Hello,
I've seen a lot of talk regarding firmware lately. Two questions:
1.) How do I know what version of the firmware I'm running?
Check your messages file when you load the ivtv drivers. It will tell
you the version of the encoder (and decoder if available) firmware
being used.
Like this?
Aug 30 00:04:52 mythtv kernel: ivtv: Encoder revision: 0x02040011
Aug 30 00:04:53 mythtv kernel: ivtv: Decoder revision: 0x02020023
2.) Do I need to manually install/download/upload firmware? Or does the
driver do this automatically/ship with latest firmware?
You normally have to get a new firmware (if you need one) manually.
Once on your system in the correct location for your distribution,
loading of the firmware occurs automatically.
newer firmware = better performance?
What's the best firmware version to use? And does that vary per chipset?
I've got this:
Aug 30 00:04:51 mythtv kernel: tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 48132, rev =
K268, serial# = 8208187
Aug 30 00:04:51 mythtv kernel: tveeprom: tuner = LG TAPE H001F MK3 (idx
= 68, type = 47)
[...]
Aug 30 00:04:51 mythtv kernel: tveeprom: audio processor = MSP4448 (type
= 1b)
Aug 30 00:04:51 mythtv kernel: tveeprom: decoder processor = SAA7115
(type = 13)
