As far as I can tell MythTV enables VBI embedding depending on the VBI 
setting. However, you can also set that up yourself with ivtvctl and that 
code is also a bit buggy so I might get away with dropping the old API 
altogether. 

Hauppauge very kindly provided me with a second PVR350 (Thanks!!) so I will 
try to setup MythTV this weekend (time permitting) and then I can finally 
test MythTV problems myself.
