The good Mel, the Mallville Public Library manager, is celebrating Christmas Eve with her friend while sipping a martini. Meanwhile she calls Dewey, her librarian, to wish him a happy Christmas. As always, he takes the opportunity to ask favours: he says he is sick, and to compensate for his fate requests a sick day and a rain check on the holiday time off.
