Well it does not show artifacts - it works as intended but sometimes too slow. 
So its not that bad, its perfectly useable.
I thought that the Execptions thrown could be useful, maybe some reace 
condition?


 I believe this is a manifestation of an old Java2Demo bug,
 but thanks for reporting (java2d.MemoryMonitor is a Java2Demo class).

 Java2Demo is not the most cleanly written application, which helped
us with finding many bugs in our code so we like to keep it slightly broken =)
