It might help to clarify something, at least to the extent I understand it. When you press the application key or right mouse button then y, a list of synonyms appears that you can go through with the down arrow. At the bottom of that list is the word "thesaurus," which points the way to a bigger source of thesaurus entries. I haven't mastered this second option, but it leads to a combo box with Bing, English, Spanish and other options. You can also get to this thesaurus option by pressing alt-r, then r, or by pressing shift-F7. I do know that shift-F7 works in Word 2007 because I have a note about it going back to that version. However, neither of these last two options brings up the automatic synonyms list that you get with the first (applications/right mouse key) option.
