To be blunt your offensive. You assume too much. Sure there are people
no matter what that mismanage there money but blind people aren't worse
than any other people. And what you failed to mention is the I-Phone is
accessible and helps many blind people function better in todays world
so acting as if it is frivolous is condescending at best.
The Iphone can also be bought in installments unlike Jaws...

Sorry, I don't think so. Eric clearly states that you must be an
employee of a company, agency or organization that has a VFO software
license to be eligible for the JAWS low-cost home use program. If you
want to purchase JAWS for personal use, you will have to pay full
price, regardless of your income or whether you are living on SSI or
SSDI. Keep in mind that some blind consumers who complain that they
can't afford the high cost of JAWS are already licking their chops to
buy the new IPhone 8 for $799 without batting an eyelash, so it's a
matter of priorities. To be perfectly blunt, anyone who is living on
SSI or SSDI should not be shelling out hundreds of dollars for a smart
phone plus the $70 to $100 per month for service if they can barely
pay the rent or put food on the table.

So what about those of us that don't work for an organization? Can the
average fixed income person Such as SSI or SSDI take advantage of this
offer
as well?

Hi JAWS User List,
Just wanted to jump in and explain more about this opportunity. In
addition to the national trade shows, it's also something that is
available for anyone in the United States or Canada who is working at
an organization that owns a current version multiuser license JAWS,
Fusion, or ZoomText license. We call this the Home Use Program and
it’s a great deal that thousands of users currently take advantage of
today. Modeled after the "Microsoft User at Home Program" where
employees at very large organizations who own a certain level of
office products, employees can buy the subscription for home for
about $10 per year.
For Freedom Scientific products, we offer prices for a new Home
Edition License of JAWS for just $125, regular price is $900. Fusion
Home Edition is just $150, regular price is $1200. ZoomText is just
$100.
Upgrades from real old versions is also greatly reduced, and you can
get the SMAs discounted about 20%. Plus, once you are registered in
the system under the Home Use Program, you are entitled to a 20%
discount on hardware products, which can be a huge savings on
something like a $2500 Braille Display, where you can save up to $500.
If you work for an organization that has a multiuser license of any
of the Freedom Scientific or AiSquared products, please ask someone
there about the program. It cost them nothing to participate other
than having their license up to date. And the employees do the
purchases direct with Freedom Scientific so they are not involved in
the transaction.
Most Federal and State agencies are already in it but hundreds of
companies and organizations are already signed up.
Regards,
Eric

Thank you for taking the rains in this matter. I was hoping to avoid
a long argument or debate when a simple phone call could clear things
up right away.

So, I did exactly what you asked, David.
Hal, of VFO, informed me that this special was for conventions only
and is no longer in effect.

I suggest somebody who is curious about this matter contact VFO

I wouldn't want a long drawn out discussion to start as it would not
serve to further the ability of any person to use JAWS.

I'd rather pay $120 for two SMA upgrades than $225.

This sounds too good to be true, but someone on another list claims
that he was told by a VFO phone rep today that they now offer a
low-cost program whereby you can purchase a full copy of JAWS for a
one-time payment of only $125, or $225 with two SMA’s regardless of
income, rather than the standard price of $1000. Has anyone heard
about this low-cost program? Or did this person misunderstand what
the rep told him? After all, if anyone, excluding businesses and
government agencies, could buy a fully unrestricted copy of JAWS for
a mere $125, why would they choose to buy it for the regular price of
$1000 instead? This just doesn’t make any sense. There must be a
catch.
