Some of it is not uninstallable by us at all... I got a PC that had a bunch of Blizzard and Steam stuff on it and the uninstallers are inaccessible. I have to get a sighted person to uninstall them for me... I am seeing this less often now but it still happens.

Hey Randy.
No, it won't stop the software, but it will help you clean it up afterwards
by finding all the registry entries etc. That is all I meant. It's not
prevention, but a cure. Not all this unwanted software is easily
uninstallable from the control panel, I think.

Malwarebyts is not going to stop software from getting installed if it is
coming in as part of another program. For us it can be very hard to notice
the added software at times. You have to just uninstall it.

As alwaysalway,s, thanks. I do not use malware bytes, but Defender.
And I have removed the programs. One of them is BlueStacks. Another
one is a pirate game. These appeared yesterday, and the only ones who
had used my laptop were my son and myself. He is 17, and his answer
was "I don't know". Anyway, will Malware Bytes work with defender, and
I will assume that it is accessible. Is it free? Thanks again.

Hey jerry. I don't think being blind prevents you from playing games,
but it is true that many of them are not too usable, and I well
understand your frustration at having them appear on your computer
without your consent.

What games are these that are appearing? Microsoft actually packs a
few with Windows now, I believe. Some applications, will you download
them, will ask you to install other products, offering you "free
stuff", basically. It's really easy to just check the boxes and carry
on with the install and not necessarily be aware. This happened to me
recently when I went to re-install Cdex (cd ripping software). There
is no remedy other than just taking care, read all screens (using the
JAWS cursor if you have to) when installing software and so on. If you
are using Windows 10, I think your user Account Control will probably
start complaining if software tries to install things in your programs
folders. I personally chose to turn that feature off because it's a
bit of a nuissance, but it's probably a good security feature, anyway.
In the meantime, just go into control panel and remove all these
unwanted programmes. If you run MalwareBytes, it can help you as well,
by removing all unwanted stuff from the registry.

Afternoon all.

I have a question. Has anyone ever experienced a game being installed
without your knowledge or consent? I have had several games show up in
my programs folder, and, being blind, I myself have no need (or time)
for games. And if this is happening, can anyone offer a remedy? I am
running Windows 10, JAWS 17, IE 11 on a Dell laptop. Thanks in advance
