This happens to me once in a while. It probly saved somewhere other than where you expected it too.do a search for the file name you used or search for *.reg If you find windows search is not helpful as I have try downloading Search Everything by Void tools. If its on your PC it will find it. This is what i use when windows search doesn't work.

Well, I will tell you. :)
press windows + R then type regedit.
Now press alt +F and arrow down to export. and press enter.
Now select the location to save the file. Example: My documents.
Now tab to the file name field and name it. Example: Registry backup
