That got me on the old lazy boy track to fetch the VLC's config file it self. Found it, and it was a fat one, opened it with notepad++, because the regular notepad would be a wrong choice. The file Directory:"C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\vlc\vlcrc "vlcrc" is our file to play with. Long story short, the hotkeys configuration lines start with the line number 4000 on that file the volume hotkey configuration started with line number 4206 I've changed my volume hotkeys into ctrl+shift+UP and Down. Worked like a big scotch shot. Now I can say VLC is indeed worth the effort. Enjoy tweaking it.
