Christy, On my Dell laptop Insert plus F11 does open the system tray andV does bring me to some volume options, but without sighted help it would be hard to figure out the next steps, so I echo the advice to seek sighted help. Also, on my lap top there are buttons for changing volume and one of those mutes the sound. Perhaps that is what happened to you. If someone can show you the volume buttons, if you have them, you may have some valuable information for the future.
