Hi Stewart,

yes, if you press Alt+F4, Firefox will give you an option to save all the tabs you have had open when you pressed Alt+F4. Next time you start Firefox again, those tabs would then be restored as if you hadn't closed the browser.
Windows+M leaves Firefox running as it is, but minimizes it to the task bar.
If you do this while the dialog is still open, Firefox waits for a response and blocks all other instances that you might try to launch.
So answer the question in one way or another, and you should be fine.

Hi Stewart,

did you download Firefox directly from www.mozilla.com or www.getfirefox.com? If not, I suggest you uninstall Firefox from Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs, and reinstall the offered version from one of these two sources.

Hi Stewart,

do you have the Google Toolbar installed or something similar? Any other extensions you installed after installing Firefox?

Hi Stewart,

did you get this resolved? Sometimes a restart of Windows helps. Looks like the Firefox.exe process was left hanging around for whatever reason, haven't seen that happening in quite a while.
