You find the free, 8.1 windows upgrade app and install it. You are then putting a new opperating system on your computer. to upgrade from windows 7, if your computer is windows 8.1 compatible, you go to the microsoft store and run their program checker to see if you can run windows 8.1 on your windows 7 computer, if you can run it, it cost $119.00 to buy. remember you are buying a new opperating system download...
