Ann,
It should work the same way.  The FN key sends a signal to the HP processor,
telling it to perform different functions when that key is pressed.

Thanks but this is a desktop keyboard.  I'll just use windows key on left
side.  I wish I knew before I bought computer.

Jawes doesn't recognize or speak this key because, as noted in previous
messages, it has no recognizable function.  However, when used with the
function keys, it will allow the user to activate certain original
functionality. It acts like a Shift key.  

In a standard HP laptop,  the key is pressed in combination with the
function keys.  When that happens, Jaws will announce the function such as
Refresh, Windows Active List, System Tray, etc.  

Without that FN key, those keys are programmed to activate other Windows
based functions.  When that happens, Jaws may or may not react to the change
initiated.  Certainly, if a key is pressed and new information appears on
the screen, Jaws will respond as normal by attempting to speak parts of the
new data displayed.
