Isn't this a security risk? A quick Google search didn't give me a definitive
answer. One result, concerning Win10, seemed to confirm Jim's conjecture that
changing this setting also allows for updating drives and even supplying
missing ones. But I wish I had a clearer idea about any risks involved.

Hi Jim,

This is also available in Windows 7. Just to add to your instructions / steps,
you can also access this option / setting by doing the following:
1. Open the control panel, go to, Devices and Printers link, press enter or
spacebar to open.

2. Tab to, Windows can display enhanced device icons and information from the
Internet. Click to change...button, press the spacebar to open, & you will have
these 3 options.

Get device information from the internet.

What happens if I change this?

Open Device Installation settings.

Take care.
Mike

Hi Group. A friend of Ed's show him this setting. I just changed this
setting for my W-10 computer. May work in older versions of the windows
operating systems, I have no way to check this out. This will allow your
computer to update apps and icons for your computer, maybe even drivers,
automatically.

1. Press the windows key, type device instillation.

2. press enter on, Change device instillation settings, control panel.

3. By default, it is set to the no radio button.

4. Up arrow to the yes, recommended radio button.

5. Tab to the save changes button, press enter.

6. Now Your computer should automatically download and install and update
your computer manufactures app and icons, and maybe drivers as well for your
computer model.
