If you select an item in speedbar via the mouse, the mouse should not move. If you use the keyboard, the act of moving keyboard focus to the editing frame moves the mouse also. Speedbar doesn't try to move the mouse, it is just the frame switching code. Try "C-x 5 o" after making a few frames. I think this is a side effect of supporting "focus follows mouse" window managers. (My personal favorite)
