I can second the request to retaining the "no panel open" state across okular
restarts. This is probably the most annoying bug in KDE I am struggling with
every day for several years now!
As a side note, while I think that it doesn't matter who uses the application
for whatever purpose, I am a scientist using okular and LaTeX. ;)
Just to note, it seems like bug #335189 is a duplicate of this one
