Not fixed for me. on Kubuntu 17.10 with backports.
changing /etc/sddm.conf to "breeze-text-only" which i downloaded from the
builtin store .bad ratings but still the most reasonable choice which itself is
frustrating. unfortunately none of the login screens are getting rid of the
media controls. its bad user experience.
