This is a regression in QtWayland. If this is still reproducible with Qt
5.12.0, I suggest to report it to Qt developers via https://bugreports.qt.io/
The drop-down is supposed to 'eat' bother Enter and Esc keys, so that
applications don't receive these keys unintentionally.
