The expected behaviour of balooctl purge is to purge the database and return to the prompt. I agree that the terminal will normally display some message(s) regarding the program that has been started before displaying the prompt at termination of that program. What it actually does is purge the database and then display what I assume to be the results of another process, some form of baloo indexing and at the end of the indexing the prompt is not returned.
