Not to stop anyone from freeing "budget" for the option I want, but I don't see what's so weird about the alternative switcher. AFAICT, it's there so you can have, say, alt+tab for a classic list switcher, and say, meta+tab for a flip cover switcher, so you can use one or the other depending on what you need in the moment.
