We have the favorites in the launcher, we have launchers in the panel, and for
those who don't use panels we now have the recent query history (opened by
pressing the down arrow) which would also show the frequently used applications
when you mostly use KRunner for starting applications.
I'd prefer to keep the clean look of KRunner if you just open it without
pressing any further buttons.
I'd therefore vote for "wontfix".
