I use desktop grid to move applications from one desktop to the other. For a switch from one desktop to the other I use keyboard shortcut (not active corner). Can you easily recognize what applications and even what windows are there (because two applications: Dolphin and Anki have double windows)? This should never be marked as resolved just because you want to use desktop effects in a different way. Besides Icons will not don't change in any way the way people use desktop effects, it can only make it easier to recognize applications. It is not resolved just because you don't see a problem here. You you don't want to do it I will wait until you stop work for KDE and report it again.
