Same procedure: If compositor is switched off (for example to watch a video without the nasty tearing that is caused by the compositor) then the panel (all panels? not sure, because my desktop only has one currently) at some point stops redrawing. Turning the compositor back on again instantly refreshes the panel and now it refreshes on every action as necessary.
