Ah HA! On further inspection, yes kdelibs had failed. Apparently, it died on kdehier 1.0_9 already being installed. Once I deinstalled kdehier 1.0_9 and allowed it to reinstall (which is odd, since it said it was "detecting" if it was already installed), worked like a charm.

Is your kdelibs port up-to-date? It looks like you're trying to build
kdebase-3.5.3 against an old (< 3.5.3) kdelibs version.
