If I remember correctly, in your project most of the clips were not used in 
timeline. That can make a big difference. In Kdenlive, we load all clip that 
are in the project tree, while only the used clips are in the MLT playlist. 
That might explain the difference in opening time... Can you check how many 
clips are used / not used (info can easily be found in Kdenlive svn: menu 
Project -> Project Settings -> Project Files
