GI mass killings of S. Korean civilians during Korean war disclosed
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- It was disclosed that the U.S.
imperialist aggression troops massacred civilians at a cobalt mine in
Kyongsan, North Kyongsang Province, South Korea, during the past Korean War,
according to Seoul-based MBC. A recent excavation of the site of the mine
after the blasting of a concrete structure blocking a pit led to the
discovery of remains of the dead littered about in the pit.
Lots of remains were scattered over a heap of mucks at a place inside
the pit 120 metres from its mouth. Gunshot wounds are still clear on the
skulls discovered in the pit.
"As such remains of the dead are littered about here and there in the
pit which has never been excavated, their number is presumed to be fairly
big, and at least 2,000 dead bodies are believed to be buried in the pit,"
the MBC said, adding: The recently disclosed case will be brought to the
international war crimes tribunal to open in New York on June 23 as evidence
proving the crimes committed by the U.S. troops during the June 25 war.

U.S. pressure upon S. Korea to buy its fighters blasted
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Three civil organizations including the
women's association for peace and the peace network issued a statement on
March 12 denouncing the U.S. for putting pressure upon South Korea to buy
its war hardware, according to Yonhap News of South Korea. Noting that the
U.S. is keen on dastardly acts to sell F-15 fighters to South Korea, the
statement strongly demanded the U.S. administration immediately stop
pressurizing South Korea into purchasing its fighters.
The statement said that it is unreasonable for the U.S. to beef up its
military muscle at a time when a good atmosphere of reconciliation and
cooperation is prevailing in the north and south after the publication of
the June 15 joint declaration. It demanded the South Korean authorities
react with dignity to the U.S. pressure and refrain from going against peace
and reunification.

DPRK's promising woman table tennis player
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- DPRK woman player Kim Hyon Hui, 21, won
the woman's singles title at the 2001 open table tennis tournament held in
Qatar recently. She also gave a good account of herself in the doubles and
singles at the open table tennis tournament held in Britain earlier.
She is recognized as a promising paddler at home and abroad.
Her coach Ri Hyong Il said that Kim, typical handshaking player, is
adept at diverse offensive tactics at every tournament. Her right-spin
drive, her special skill, is very powerful.
She has played ping-pong since her age of ten and has been trained at a
sports group.
For her well-developed athletic sense, persevering efforts and others
she began cutting her conspicuous figure at international tournaments at the
age of 15.
She greatly contributed to the successes of the DPRK table tennis
women's team at the 44th world table tennis championships, the 14th Asian
Table Tennis Championships, the 13th Asian Games and others.
She became a merited sportswoman in Juche 86 (1997).
She is now under intensive training to compete in the 46th world table
tennis championships slated for next month.

With new method of operation
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- In September last year a girl with her
neck bone broken was transported to Kim Man Yu Hospital in Pyongyang. The
patient, aged 26, living in the county town of Jongphyong county, South
Hamgyong Province, was at stake.
The indication of injury pointed to the multi-fracture of the sixth
cerebral vertebra of neck bone and general paralysis.
In medical circles it was a matter of common sense that treating such a
case was difficult and the recovery of the patient was almost impossible.
There are two methods of operation for the case of neck-bone breaking,
one of which is laminectomy and another is vertebra front fixing operation.
The former requires high skill in incising the front part of the neck linked
with the main carotid arteries, nerves and gullet. But this method is
defective because it is liable to a secondary complication caused by the
trouble of grafted bone's nerves.
Director Ko Je Ryun of the traumatic orthopaedics department decided to
apply a new method of operation on the basis of his experience gained in
clinical practice on the dislocation and multi-fracture of neck bone. This
is a funnel-shaped vertebra front fixing operation by grafting a
funnel-shaped bone.
this method of operation proved successful.
Three days after operation, paralysis began to be removed from fingers,
and a week later paralyzed fingers began to move. now the patient is in a
position to sit and walk by herself.
Her body functions are on the gradual improvement. "There will be no
aftereffects of operation," said director Ko.

Rodong Sinmun on spirit of devotedly defending leader
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article
says that the Korean People's Army is the iron-willed militant ranks replete
with the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and a model that all the
people should follow. Defending the leader is an important affair of vital
significance in accomplishing the cause of socialism, the article says, and
goes on:
The spirit of devotedly defending the leader which was displayed in the
flames of the anti-Japanese revolution and has been successfully carried
forward decade after decade, has been brought into full play among the
Korean revolutionary armed forces in the era of the army-first revolution
led by leader Kim Jong Il.
The spirit is the starting point of all thinking and activities of the
Korean People's Army soldiers and the hardcore of the revolutionary spirit
of soldiers.
The transparent spirit of devotedly defending the leader prevailing
among the KPA soldiers is fully expressed in the heroic self-sacrificing
spirit for the safety and dignity of Kim Jong Il and in the spirit of
absolutely carrying through his orders in time.
It is the noble view of life of the KPA soldiers that to defend him at
the risk of their lives is the highest honour of the revolutionary soldiers.
For the KPA soldiers, the spirit is an idea that is displayed at every
moment of daily life, not only on a special occasion.
The spirit is a treasured sword to annihilate the enemy and an
invincible weapon for the revolutionary army.
The KPA carries through his orders in time without the slightest
vacillation.
It is the trait of the KPA to unconditionally accept and carry through
any difficult militant tasks given by him, without slightest bargaining and
complaint about conditions.

culture and tourism, and his party left here today. They were seen off at

de hoy inserto un comentario denunciando a ee.uu. que en el nuevo siglo
atenta contra la dignidad de la rpdc. el comantarista senala en particular:
llama atencion la reciente creacion por ee.uu. de la comandancia de
destacamento de desminado de las aguas en su base en sasebo del japon. este
ano ee.uu. al reforzar sus fuerzas armadas y levantar alborotos militares en
el contorno de la peninsula coreana expone abiertamente la intencion de
aplastar con las fuerzas a la rpdc.
