Exhibition to Expose Evilness of "Falun Gong" Opens in HK
An exhibition to expose the evilness of "Falun Gong" cult opened Saturday in
Hong Kong.
Sponsored by the Hong Kong-based "Wen Wei Po" newspaper and the Chinese
History and Culture Educational Foundation For Youth of Hong Kong, the
exhibition exposed the evil nature and damages of " Falun Gong" cult with
some 200 pictures in three parts.
The first part related the activities of various evil cults in the United
States, Japan and Uganda and the steps to crack down on these cults taken by
the Chinese government. The second part told the fact of the suicidal blaze
incident occurred at the Tiananmen Square and stories of "Falun Gong" cult
victims. The third part laid bare the activities of "Falun Gong" cult in
Hong Kong and the combat to denounce the cult in the community.
Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Zhang Guoliang, president of
"Wen Wei Po" newspaper, said the exhibition is held at the request of the
readers and people from all walks of life in the city.
With the convincing facts and pictures, the exhibition is aimed to acquaint
people with the jeopardy of evil cults and the sin of "Falun Gong" cult in
order to foster a healthy culture of upholding civilization and objecting
evil cults in Hong Kong, he added.
Jiang Enzhu, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's
Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, attended the
opening ceremony.
Chinese Students Oppose Lee Teng-hui's US Trip
Chinese students and scholars at Cornell University of the United States

Teng- hui to visit the university, warning that it would harm US-China
relations again.
In a letter to President Hunter Rawlings, the Chinese Students and Scholars
Association (CSSA) said they are strongly opposed to the planned visit.
According to media reports, Lee was planning to visit Cornell, his alma
mater, in May.
"We urge the university not to extend any invitation to him," the group said
in the letter, which was obtained here Thursday.
"Although primarily a non-political, non-religious and independent
organization, CSSA finds it hard to remain silent when our national interest
is in danger," said the letter. CSSA, with more than 300 members, is one of
the largest student organizations at Cornell.
"Mr. Lee Teng-hui has been taking deliberate steps to divide the Chinese
territory and sovereignty in an attempt to separate Taiwan from China, to
promote 'two Chinas' or 'one China, one Taiwan'," read the letter.
"We are emotionally attached to our national integrity to a tremendous
extent and fully support the 'one China' policy."
"Today, Lee Teng-hui himself is seen as a symbol of the 'one China, one
Taiwan' policy that he has spared no effort to promote, " read the letter.
"Cornell University's decision to invite Lee Teng-hui could be considered by
the international community as pronounced support for his separatist
standpoint. It will also be perceived as an insult to the Chinese people."
The letter concluded that a visit by Lee would not only make a negative
impact on US-China relations but also on the public image of the university
itself.
The letter described Lee's 1995 visit to Cornell as a disaster to US-China
and cross-Straits relations.
"Although Lee had claimed that his (1995) visit was merely ' private', his
real intention proved to be using Cornell University, one of the most
prestigious universities in the world, as a forum to promote his notorious
pursuit for Taiwan independence," the letter noted.
"As a result, the feelings of the Chinese students and scholars, as well as
those of all patriotic Chinese, were badly hurt. We were infuriated by Lee's
separatist, anti-China remarks on Cornell University campus and extremely
disappointed at the suddenly reversed attitude of the US government toward
the Taiwan issue ( at that time)."
The letter said Lee, encouraged by the Cornell trip, strode down the
separatist road even further.
"Under these circumstances, the visit by Lee Teng-hui, even though not as a
government official of the island of Taiwan any more, will be even more
damaging this time than in 1995," the letter warned.
It said Lee played a "multi-identity trick" in 1995. "On one hand, he
accepted invitation from Cornell University as an alumnus and applied for a
visa to the U.S. as a 'free citizen' of Taiwan. But as soon as he came to
Cornell campus, he lost no time to pick up his role as a politician who
promoted his separatist policies."
"History proved that he is most interested in taking advantage of Cornell
University's fame for the purpose of his political propaganda.
"We, as both Cornellians and Chinese citizens, strongly believe that the
university should not give Mr. Lee another chance to hurt the feelings of
Chinese people or to create China-US and cross- Straits tensions again."
Emphasizing that the "one China" policy is a policy China and the US have
mutually agreed with and acted upon, CSSA members urged the university
authorities "to reconsider both the feelings of local Chinese community and
the global political picture" when they make a decision.

Dalai Lama's Proposed Visit To Taiwan Harmful: Official

affairs official on Friday said here that the Dalai Lama's proposed visit to
Taiwan, in the name of "proselytizing" and with the permission of the Taiwan
administration, will be extremely harmful for relations across the Taiwan
Strait, and will lead to serious after-effects.
Sun Yafu, assistant director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State
Council, told a press conference that this move once again unmasked the
support of the Taiwan administration for the Dalai Lama's splittist group
and its subversive activities.
The official pointed out that this also showed clearly that the Taiwan
administration is insincere about improving the relations across the Taiwan
Strait.
He stressed that both Taiwan Province and the Tibet

Region are inalienable parts of China. Besides, both the Chinese government
and the Chinese people have the full determination to safeguard national
unity, and any splittism attempt is doomed to failure.

Huangyan Island an Integral Part of China - Spokesman
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao refuted Saturday the latest
Philippine claim over a Chinese island in the South China Sea.
Zhu restated that Huangyan Island in the South China Sea has been an
integral part of the Chinese territory and such a fact has been respected by
the international community.
Philippine Vice President and Foreign Secretary Teofisto Guingona made a
statement on March 15, claiming that Huangyan Island was part of the
Philippine territory and the Philippines "has exercised sovereignty and
jurisdiction over the area."
Commenting on the statement, Zhu reiterated that China has "sufficient
historical and legal evidence" to prove that Huangyan Island has always been
part of the Chinese territory and its surrounding waters have been a
traditional fishing ground for Chinese fishermen.
Plenty of Chinese historical literature has recorded that the island is part
of the Chinese territory, he said, and the fact that China has full
sovereignty and jurisdiction over the island is acknowledged by the
international community.
He pointed out that Huangyan island "has never been within the Philippine
territory."
"A number of treaties that demarcate the Philippine territory indicate that
its western limit is 118 degrees east longitude.
Huangyan island, however, is to the west of the line, and belongs
to China's Zhongsha Archipelago," the spokesman said.
He said that maps published by the Philippine government also show that
Huangyan Island is not within the Philippine territory.
He refuted the Philippine claim based on the pretext of its "200-mile
exclusive economic zone" and "geographical vicinity", saying such a claim
can find "no support in international law."
Zhu again urged the Philippine side to respect the basic facts and the norms
of international law, respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity,
observe the understanding and consensus reached by both sides through
negotiations, and take concrete actions to safeguard stability in the South
China Sea and Sino-Philippine friendship.
