On the 157th day of the Death Fast, 43 children wanted to fly kites in front of Kartal Prison (Istanbul). Women prisoners are incarcerated there. Some of them are the mothers of these children. The children's action was to symbolise freedom and show solidarity with the mothers and women on the Death Fast. The fascist state, which had detained hundreds of prisoners' family members and the lawyer Zeki Rüzgar at the burial of the Death Faster Cengiz Soydas, today detained 43 children, their bus driver and an adult woman looking after the children, in front of Kartal Prison. The children are all 9 or 10 years old and were taken to the police station at Pendik and are still in police custody. We demand the immediate release of the 43 children! While in the prisons the Death Fast has continued for 155 days, outside the TAYAD families have continued their Death Fast for 130 days in Istanbul and 114 days in Izmir. The action by Ugur Türkmen, who on January 5, 2001 was released from Sincan 'F' Type Prison and is continuing the Death Fast in his flat in Mersin for the 138th day. Mehmet Ali Kanmaz, who after his release from Aydin Prison continued the Death Fast in Izmir, has continued his action for 146 days. THE DEATH FASTERS IN THE STATE HOSPITAL OF BAYRAMPASA ARE REFUSING TO TAKE WATER, SUGAR AND SALT! The prisoners on the Death Fast who are in Bayrampasa State Hospital have refused to take water, sugar and salt since March 24, 2001. Why? Because they have not been delivered to hospital to save their lives but to cripple them through forcible medical intervention. The prisoners on the Death Fast who were taken some days ago from Kartal Prison to hospital, were brought back to Kartal and then, without being taken inside the prison, were immediately brought back to hospital. The prisoners on the Death Fast have firmly resolved to lay claim to their right to protest against forcible intervention and to resist until the end. So they have declared that they will take neither water, sugar or salt. THE BANDITRY IS BEING CONTINUED! While the Death Fast has continued into its 155th day, the corpse of Cengiz Soydas, who had died on the 153rd day in Sincan Prison, was yesterday taken away by the police and buried in the cemetery of Kocatepe. The TAYAD families and lawyers, who wanted to take part in the funeral, were detained. While the TAYAD families and the lawyer Zeki Rüzgar who were detained yesterday are still in police custody, there has been no change in the funeral programme despite all the banditry and the illegality that has been practised. The TAYAD families, who as part of the previously prepared programme went to the house of Cengiz's parents today because they wanted to express condolences and visit the grave of Cengiz Soydas, were also detained by the police. TAYAD families, who had got on a bus in Bagcilar, were detained in Okmeydani, while families who came from Gazi were arrested in front of the Alevi community centre. The TAYAD families who set out from Okmeydani and Kücükarmutlu were also arrested in the vicinity of Kaynarca. Members of the Halkevi (People's House), the trade union Nakliyat-Is (for transport workers) and revolutionary-democratic people who came to the funeral were arrested at the chief mosque in Kaynarca. The Susurluk state, the enemy of the people and which does not even shrink from showing disrespect towards dead bodies, is continuing its banditry. The TAYAD families, despite all the banditry, gathered at the grave of Cengiz Soydas in order to commemorate him, for he gave his life for his homeland and people.
