TORTURE IS A MORAL ISSUE

Dear Friend,

The National Religious Campaign Against Torture joins with the California
Families to Abolish Solitary Confinement (CFASC) to invite you to attend an
important upcoming event on Monday, July 8th.

Light a Candle to Dispel the Darkness of Solitary Confinement

When: Monday, July 8th at 8:00 PM
Where: Norwalk City Hall, 12700 Norwalk Blvd, Norwalk,
Corner of Imperial and Norwalk Blvd

Why: In July 2011 security housing unit (SHU) prisoners from Pelican Bay went
on a peaceful hunger strike asking the California Department of Corrections and
Rehabilitation to support an end of torture and meet their five core demands.
Although they were joined by up to 12,000 prisoners in the state, their demands
have still not been met. As a result, next Monday July 8, prisoners confined
to solitary confinement from around California are beginning their third
peaceful hunger strike.

Prisoners in the Pelican Bay, Corcoran, and Tehachapi security housing units —
and no doubt other prisons — will once again begin a hunger strike. Please join
in solidarity with their call for an end to torture.

For more information about the five core demands
