Hello Jean

It's presumably because your internet security software blocks pop-ups, and Ctrl+F5 changes that software's settings. Video clips, (Windows Media, Real or Quicktime) all play in pop-up windows. I don't think it's anything to do with JavaScript; that's more for interactive things like changing colour when the mouse rolls over something or displaying the current date.
