There are bobbin and tatting lace books published purely in Japanese - I
have a beauty, ISBN 4-579-10822-1, brought back from Japan by a friend, and
she has several others.  And a Google search of "bobbin lace Japan" and go
to the end of the list for all Japanese script sites will bring up some of
the most startlingly beautiful lace.   So there's got to be a fair few
lacemakers there.

Do you count the sweatshop Chinese lacemakers in such a census too?
