Aurelia, Have you tried looking in Ricci's "Old Italian Lace?" I don't have either book in front of me, but Ricci and Tebbs were contemporaries, I believe. You will find Old Italian Lace (volumes I and II) on the professors site. I know much of the information came from a slightly earlier book, "Seven Centuries of Lace." The second volume of Ricci begins with a bit of history and then launches into the first section which is about lace from Venice. I don't own Tebbs so I cannot comment on whether or not the laces are similar.

I have been reading an ancient book, Tebbs' "Art of Bobbin Lace." It's as different as can be from the contemporary publications that we use nowadays. Reading along in it, I came to a chapter on "Venetian Lace." No explanation given as to what it is. I looked about in all my other books, nobody else has anything to say about "Venetian" lace. If it could have been a reference to needle lace, it wouldn't have been a problem, but the book is only about bobbin lace. Does anybody have any idea as to what Venetian lace might be?
