Can you execute `find /sys/devices -name modalias -exec echo -n "{} - "
\; -exec cat {} \;` on your live 2.6 system?

IMHO it's better to add it as optional to KMODULES - so everybody can
disable it. And I'm not sure that generic driver will work as planned.
