Hi all,

I've been using Dachstein for months and it worked
like a dream. Yesterday, I got a new piece of
furniture so I moved all my computers around. Then I
plugged all cables and everything back in, just the
way they were before the moving, then something
happened. My Dachstein firewall bound my external NIC
to IP address 10.24.5.17.

Some info that may be useful:
1. I use MediaCom cable modem. MediaCom uses dynamic
IP.
2. The current Dachstein firewall worked for months
without problem prior to the moving.
3. I did NOT make any change to anything, except I
moved my machines around.
4. The internal part of my home network works fine. I
can ping each machine, including 192.168.1.254, which
is the internal NIC of the firewall.
5. I connected my Mandrake Linux machine DIRECTLY to
the cable modem and it acquired the IP address with NO
problem.
6. I connected my Windows machine DIRECTLY to the
cable modem and it acquired the IP address with NO
problem.
7. I tried to use Eiger. Same problem. The firewall
bounds 10.24.5 17 to my external NIC.
8. I looked at the message when the firewall booted
up:
it shows that the firewall machine correctly
identified the DHCP server at 12.223.4.34. BTW,
12.223.4.34 is also the DHCP server used by the
Windows machine and Mandrake machine.
By the look of the message, which shows all the steps
the firewall took to get the new IP, everything worked
fine until the binding. In other words, the binding of
the IP is wrong, everthing else seems in order.
9. This morning, I tested again with Eiger. This time
the firewall machine binds 10.24.6.16 to my external
NIC.
10. I tested the hardware and the wiring. They all
seem working fine.

I love this firewall, it is a PI-90 machine running on
a floppy. Please help me fix it!

I will gladly provide any further info you may need to
help me...
