That /dev/fd0u1680 is missing has nothing to do with LVM, but with udev. I also ran into problem and found the solution here: http://mandrake.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/FormattingFloppyDisks?rev=1.10 The page doesn't exist anymore, but it's still in the google cache. It boils down to this: you first have to set the disk parameters with 'setfdprm' and then can access your floppy in that way using /dev/fd0. A happy new year to everyone too!
