You'll need writeable media ;)
Although deprecated the 3.5" floppy disks are still a good choice 
because of their write inhibit switch. The only other media I know to 
have this by default are SD flashcards but these may prove to be a lot 
harder to implement.

You'll have to change PKGPATH in LEAF.CFG. The first entry in PKGPATH 
will be used as the default backup device. The standard configuration 
shell does not allow you to change from that default so you should set 
that to your floppy drive.

Well, it didn't use to but apparently that has changed. Just to be on 
the safe side I've kept my old PKGPATH which is 
"/dev/fd0u1440:msdos,/dev/cdrom:iso9660,/dev/fd0u1440:msdos"

Also, if you'd like to be able to change what packages to load you 
should put LEAF.CFG on the floppy disk as well. To set this up add 
"LEAFCFG=/dev/fd0u1440:msdos" as a kernel parameter in ISOLINUX.CFG
