For some reason, all this I reminds me of the clockmaker Torriano and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. After Charles had retired to Yuste, Charles and Torriano would spend their entire day trying to get all the clocks in Charles' collection to be synchronized with each other and the time as determined by Charles' collection of astronomical instruments.
As far as I can tell, they were never successful, but it did keep them busy.
