We have recently published Maeler's Regard - Images of Adult Learning by
Michael Newman. The book deals with learning as a tool in the struggle
against unwanted control, and has chapters on protest and resistance, civil
society, and social movements. Michael Newman has written over the past
twenty five years on community action, trade union education, social action,
and learning as a political act. His writing is internationally recognised,
and two of his books have won international awards. You can learn more about
his books and read excerpts on our web page at <www.svp.com.au>. Clearly we
would appreciate any mention you could make of the books on your list.
Maeler's Regard carries references to community and social action in a
number of countries, describes and analyses a picket line in a South African
strike, describes union action and training in several countries including
Australia, and offers a theoretical framework in which to carry out
political action, protest and resistance. We would be happy to send you a
review copy of Maeler's Regard if you felt able to post a review of it on
your list.
Regards
Andrew Fisher
