"MEDIA ACTIVE"  ::  MAY 2003 WORKSHOP SERIES


OPENING SEMINAR  ::  'MEDIA ACTIVE' PANEL PRESENTATION
FRIDAY 9 MAY  ::  6.30PM - 8.30PM
A panel presentation and discussion exploring the use of various forms 
of independent media for social change campaigns, including community
television and film, print media and community radio.  Free of charge 
and no pre-registration is required.  Venue: Casey Plaza Lecture 
Theatre, Bowen Street, RMIT City Campus.

STREAM 1  ::  'TOOLS FOR MEDIA ACTIVISM'
SATURDAY 10 MAY AND SUNDAY 11 MAY  ::  9.30AM - 4.30PM
Exploring a range of creative ways that community activists can more
effectively access existing media forms, or produce their own. 
Including sessions on social change communication techniques, internet 
activism, alternative publishing, writing for the media, using graphic 
design and creating media events.

STREAM 2  ::  'TOOLS FOR INTERNET ACTIVISM'
SUNDAY 11 MAY OR SATURDAY 17 MAY  ::  9.30AM - 4.30PM
Introducing the key methods and approaches that cyberactivists can use 
to build social change campaigns, as well as the key elements of 
effective web design for advocacy and social action.  Including a 
hands-on beginner's web-building component.

STREAM 3  ::  'MAKING BETTER USE OF THE MEDIA'
FRIDAY 16 MAY OR SATURDAY 17 MAY  ::  9.30AM - 4.30PM
Demonstrating how community activists can get the most out of the
mainstream media and featuring practical sessions on how to liaise with
the media, how to write effective media releases, and how to conduct 
radio and television interviews.

COST PER DAY  ::  $60 FUNDED NGOs / $20 UNFUNDED COMMUNITY ORGs
