Humphrey McQueen to speak at Socialist Ideas Conference
In the last thirty years Humphrey McQueen has become one of Australia's
foremost radical commentators & historians.
From his groundbreaking 1970 essay A New Britannia through to his most
recent work The Essence of Capitalism McQueen has consistently exposed
the myths of capitalist "civilisation" in Australia and the world.
McQueen's analysis of politics & economy are a must for anyone trying to
make sense of the world today. McQueen will be presenting the opening
talk at the Socialist Ideas Conference (SEE BELOW) on November 15, Sat
10:30am at Trades Hall Council.
The Conference also features COLIN FOX a founding member of the Scottish
Socialist Party and one of six recently elected MPs in that country. Fox
gained immediate notoriety in the British media after being censured and
escorted out of the Scottish parliament for singing a popular
anti-monarchist song at his swearing-in ceremony. A devotee of radical
Scottish culture, Colin Fox in the last two years founded and organised
the Edinburgh People's Festival. He is the SSP's spokesperson on
Justice, Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina - who's next? People's resistance to
Imperialism is growing throughout Latin America. This workshop will
explore the reasons, and the results so far.
'Helpem Fren': Australia's Imperialist ambitions in the region
Why has Australia sent troops to the Solomon Islands? Why does
Australia support Indonesia's bloody war against the people of Aceh
and West Papua? This workshop will look at the role played by
Australia as 'deputy sheriff' to the Asia-Pacific region.
Resistance to the Empire in the Middle East
Iraq and Palestine are both occupied nations struggling for their
self-determination. This workshop will look at the growing
resistance in both countries, and its impact on the Middle East as a
region.
