NATIONAL ANTI-DEPORTATION ALLIANCE RETURNS TO PICKET MALAYSIAN AIRLINES
PUBLIC OPEN DAY

After a successful picket of Malaysian Airlines office last Friday,
Refugee rights activists will return to picket the Malaysian Airlines
‘open day’ lunch this Wednesday. The office is at 16 Spring St and the
picket will be between 11.30-1.00pm, Wednesday 26 November.

Malaysian Airlines is throwing an "open house" lunch for the coming Hari
Raya (end of Ramadan) and has invited business associates and some
community groups.

The National Anti Deportation Alliance will picket the open day and
inform the visitors that Malaysian is taking part in the forced
deportation of asylum seekers back to places of danger such as
Afghanistan and Iran.

"Malaysian Airlines have refused to issue a public statement that they
will cease being involved in this breach of human rights. Their business
associated and the community groups should know that Malaysian Airlines
have been doing the government's dirty work" said Ian Rintoul,
spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition NSW.

"There have been cases where those deported by the Australian Government
have been killed or disappeared. Iranian deportees have been met at
Tehran Airport by the secret police and have disappeared" he said.

"We are asking the public not to fly Malaysian Airlines until they
guarantee they will not carry forced deportations" he said.

"Deporting people into danger is against UN conventions. Airlines such
as Malaysian have a moral duty not to carry these deportations" he said.
