Dear women friends and activists,

We would like to invite you to the first IWD organising meeting for 04.

2 500 women and men marched this year in Melbourne to say: "No to the
War on Iraq" - the key issue for feminsts to take a clear stand on and
show solidarity with the Iraqi people.

Nearly nine months down the track, Iraq is still occupied, its people
terrorised and murdered and its vast resources plundered. At the same
time refugees are being denied access to Australian shores and Muslims
and Middle Eastern people are vilified as terrorists.

The Howard goverment has stepped up the war on women also on the
domestic front. Access to childcare has become a luxury unaffordable for
most working class people, Medicare is being destroyed and cuts to
Higher Education have been disasterous. Jobs are disappearing at an
increadibly fast rate, especially in female dominated areas (such as
textiles) and the goverment is offering welfare cuts as consolation!

We would like to invite you to help us fight this neo-liberal agenda and
build a big, powerful and strong IWD 2004 with a clear message:

Stop the War on Women
money for jobs, education, health & childcare - Not warfare!

Melbourne IWD 2004 will be part of global marches against the war on
Iraq and the war at home on women (the European Forum Assembly for the
Rights of Women endorsed a march against the occupation of Iraq across
Europe).

IWD 2004 organising meeting:
Tuesday 16 December at 6:30pm
Annex (next to Trades Hall Bar)
Trades Hall, 54 Victoria Street Carlton South
